How to set up: Rankmath Tutorial

As you have got a bit of an idea of what is Rankmath about, in the following steps I shall present you with a full Rankmath tutorial in a simple step-by-step way.

Go to your WordPress dashboard and click on the Plugins tab at the left. Now search for Rankmath, after it appears, click on install.

Once you click on the install button, the below window opens up where the plugin says to Connect your Account.

Click on that.

It will redirect to the Rankmath register page below and ask you to register. You can choose any of your Google. Facebook or WordPress logins or you can also register with your own email id and password as shown.

For this Rankmath tutorial, I am using my Google login ID for registration.

Once you select the Google Id, your Gmail credentials show up and then select your user details from that. In this case, Google will share email credentials, profile pictures and other preferences with Rankmath.

Now after registering, the below page appears, here click on the OK Activate now button to activate Rankmath on your WordPress site.

In the next step of this Rankmath tutorial, you will find the list of steps that are to be completed before moving into the dashboard, as shown below.

I recommend you to choose the Advanced Rankmath properties to be installed, in this mode, you can control all your SEO-related activities yourself with the help of Rankmath giving options.

The Easy mode is very basic and you will not be in control of the data, as Rankmath will take care of most of the activities. And all the things shall be set to default.

After selecting the Advanced mode, click on the Start Wizard button, as shown above, which will redirect you to the page as shown below.

Now, if you already have any pre-installed on-page SEO plugins or any redirection in your website, then the below page will appear. And if you don’t have one, you won’t find this page.

So, now as I have the below plugins already installed on my site, so Rankmath wants to take all the input data from those and store them in its directory without losing anything.

Now to move forward, check the plugin boxes and press the Start Import button.

In this Rankmath tutorial step, the tool starts importing all the stored data in the relevant plugins before uninstalling the same. The importing will take some time and after it is done, click on Next to move forward.

Now on the present page, You need to provide some credentials for your website. Start with telling Rankmath what is your website about. As shown in the below snapshot, click on the dropdown arrow and you will find a list of website types.

There are options like Personal blog, eCommerce, news and more.

Choose the type of your site from the list. As mine is a blog, I have selected Personal blog.

Next, Upload your website’s logo (recommended dimensions are indicated on the page). This is an important step for your branding. Create an eye-catchy logo with the help of Canva or any other graphic design software.

You can also check out Fiverr, where you can get good designers with just 5$ charges. So, hire one and create your own logo.

Once you upload your logo, as shown in the below snapshot, after some time you can see your website’s logo on Google’s 1st-page right side (top) position whenever anyone types and searches your website name.

You can also add a social image with the dimensions as recommended. This is shown on social media to your audience as a featured image when any of your posts does not contain a featured image.

The last two steps you can provide anytime after going to the Rankmath dashboard in your WordPress. Click on Save and Continue after completing the steps.

Now in this step, Rankmath will ask you to connect your Google services such as Google search console and Google Analytics with the SEO tool.

This is required for

• Verifying website ownership.
• Tracking of web pages and ranking of various keywords.
• Easily sets up Google analytics without the use of a 3rd party or plugin.
• Submitting sitemaps to Google search console automatically.

Before advancing, make sure that you already have submitted your site to Google services.

If your website is already connected to Google, click on the Save and Continue button.

In the next step, Rankmath will ask to provide access to your Google services by checking the boxes. Click on the boxes and then it will redirect to the next step.

Here, as you can see, Rankmath has started showing your site credentials, so no need to do anything. Just click on Save and continue.

In this step also, keep the default settings as it is. If your website is an e-commerce site, then along with Posts and Pages, a Product option will also be shown, in the Public post types section.

As shown in the below snapshot click on Save and continue.

Next, you will be taken to the below page, which is about your website optimization points. If you don’t have good knowledge about it, keep it just as it is.

Here Rankmath gives you options on No-follow links which are very important if you are running an affiliate or review website so Google should not follow the affiliate links. Because Google does not like affiliated links and marks them as spam.

Open your external links in the blog post in a new tab. You can keep it checked in.

Once done just press Save and continue.

You are almost at the last steps of configuring Rankmath on your website.

here Rankmath will ask you to enable advanced options, which are related to your ownership, on-page and off-page SEO.

So, just click on Set up Advanced options.

Here Rankmath wants to know from you about your role in the present website.

In fact whatever inputs you have provided till now, here will show you the roles of different entities on the website.

If you are the sole contributor to your website, then you will find only the Administrator section, in which all roles are enabled.

Now if you have more than one contributor already defined on your website. The page will show you as the Administrator and others as per their roles.

In this case, the other writers are indicated as Contributors. And you can configure here what they can access on your site.

As my website has more than one contributor, so Rankmath is showing me options.

Similarly, for your case go through the options and check which one is important to select. Doing so, click Next to move forward.

In the next window, 404 monitor in Rankmath of your URLs and redirections to a specific page when your URLs hit a blank or 404 page.

Keep the redirection tab checked and Click on Save and Continue.

In the last step, you will find the Schema Markup page.

Schemas are very much important for your site to get traffic from search engines. Schema adds metadata to your posts on a search engine page, resulting in higher conversions and traffic.

So, keep the options as it is if you have a blog website. If you choose any other type of website then the relevant options shall be shown here.

Presently, the options are already checked as per the information received by Rankmath till now.

Now Click on Save and continue.

Congratulations!! Rankmath is configured on your site.

Now just go to your WordPress dashboard and you will find the Rankmath tab at the left bar, as shown below.

Once you bring your cursor close to the tab, all the Rankmath shortcuts flash up. To have better know-how, click on the Dashboard tab.
